The Netherlands has a rich history of reed farming used for roofing and cladding for 8,000 years. We leverage the country’s waterways to repurpose Basralocus hardwood mooring posts from Rotterdam harbours, extending their lifecycle sustainably. Locally sourced materials further reduce our carbon footprint. Reed cultivation addresses agriculture-related greenhouse gas emissions and pollution. Reed beds stabilize water levels, filter pollutants, and support biodiversity. Absorbing four times more CO2 than trees, reeds also combat climate change. Our proposed reed farm in Dutch peatlands aims to restore traditional practices, promoting environmental health and sustainable agriculture.
